Meaningful Engagement
You can see many beautiful castles, drink beer and eat delicious food. However, many people choose to go to other places rather than Czech because the people here have a bad nomination. Many people think Czech people are rude and unwelcoming. We all know our personality and attitude can be mostly influenced by the people we see or the environment we are involved in. Due to the Czech history background, Czech was invaded by Soviets and under control by the Community Party after World War II. When the Soviet leave Czech, the culture, and norms still stayed in people's mind and blood, which will continually influence their generations, so many of Czech people's attitudes and behaviour made many tourists angry, which might be caused by raised by different Parties.
As a media and communication major student, what I can do to help is to help Czech to correct their reputation and let them know the story behind it. I want to open another blog section to talk about how stereotypes mislead tourists. By using a fun way and a short paragraph to talk about the history of Czech, let more and more people know the reason could let them more understandable. Also, by telling them the generation nowadays are actually very nice and friendly could make it more convincing.
Stereotypes can be a hurtful invisible weapon that can threaten a people, a group even a country. Just like how we are afraid of danger, we can also become hesitant to decide to go somewhere by having a deep stereotype, like people are not nice, food is not good, high expense, etc. I want to try my best to let people get rid of the stereotype that Czech people are cold-blood and unfriendly, to let the people give them a chance to prove themselves by going to their country.
